Health related behaviour survey of year 6 and year 10 pupils in East Sussex

During the summer term of 2017, schools across East Sussex were supported by the Schools Health Education Unit (SHEU) to undertake a health related behaviour survey commissioned by East Sussex Public Health. Age-appropriate surveys were completed by 3,089 Year 10 pupils (14 and 15-year-olds) and 3,260 Year 6 pupils (10 and 11-year-olds) in East Sussex primary, secondary and special schools. The Year 10 survey had taken place previously in 2004, 2007 and 2012, whilst the Year 6 survey took place for the first time in 2017.

The findings can help schools and wider partners to better understand the current health and wellbeing needs and assets of children and young people, including responses to robust and validated questions on a range of topics such as smoking, drugs, relationships and sex, diet, exercise, emotional wellbeing and safety. Local district and borough summary reports are available for each year group, as well as summary reports for East Sussex.
